What prompted the initial contact with the killer? On January 11, 2021, Agent Salaman-Conde responded to a motor vehicle accident.

Actions taken by subject toward police: A driver of one of the vehicles involved, David Batiz, ambushed Agent Salaman-Conde, fatally shooting him with an AK-47. Batiz then carjacked a vehicle and fled the scene.

Reactions by the police: Two other police officers pursued Batiz, and they were murdered as well.

How murdered? Agent Salaman-Conde was ambushed and shot dead while responding to a motor vehicle accident.

What could have been done differently for the officer to still be alive? In the hands of a trained marksman the AK-47 can be used accurately at substantial distances, so it is hard to know at what point Agent Salaman-Conde was ambushed and if he ever had a chance to seek cover and/or return fire.

Would the officer had been justified to use deadly force before being murdered? Agent Salaman-Conde would have been justified using deadly force as soon as he saw Batiz making a furtive motion to grab a weapon or possessing one. It is doubtful the Agent had a chance to see either before being murdered.

Outcome for the cop-killer: In a rare display of presumed street justice, a day after executing the officers, Batiz was found shot dead and with a sign around his neck saying he was the murderer.
