What prompted the initial contact with the killer? At around 7 p.m. on August 25, 2023,  Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal Police Department (PLPTPD) Officers attempted to pull over a vehicle operated by Nolan Ray.

Actions taken by subject toward police: Ray refused to pull over and drove away. When PLPTPD PO Anthony Francone tried to incapacitate the vehicle by putting down spike strips, Ray intentionally ran the officer over, killing him.

Reactions by the police: Other officers at the scene shot Ray dead.

How murdered? PO Francone was run over while trying to stop a fleeing suspect.

What could have been done differently for the officer to still be alive? Officers should make sure they have cover to hide behind and protect themselves from the possibility of a fleeing motorist targeting them when they are laying spike strips.

Would the officer have been justified in using deadly force before being murdered? PO Francone would have been justified but likely would not have had enough time to respond when Ray turned the vehicle toward him.

Outcome for the cop-killer: Ray was justifiably shot dead by the other officers.
