What prompted the initial contact with the killer? On the evening of July 21, 2022, Rochester Police Officers Anthony Mazurkiewicz and Sino Seng were assigned to a plainclothes tactical unit and were sitting in an unmarked police vehicle, assisting in a homicide investigation.

Actions taken by subject toward police: At approximately 9:15 p.m., Kelvin Vickers approached to within 10-15 feet of the vehicle occupied by Officers Mazurkiewicz and Seng and while hiding behind some bushes, Vickers opened fire on them with around 17 bullets.

Reactions by the police: PO Mazurkiewicz was struck several times in the upper body and PO Seng was shot once in the lower body. Despite being shot, PO Seng exited the vehicle and returned fire at Vickers who managed to flee the scene without getting shot. Both officers were transported to a hospital where PO Mazurkiewicz died from his wounds and PO Seng was treated and released. A manhunt ensued for Vickers who was found within an hour, nearby in an abandoned building along with the murder weapon, a 9mm handgun.

Outcome for the cop-killer: Upon being tracked down, Vickers surrendered, was arrested, and faces charges of murder in the second degree; attempted murder in the second degree; assault in the second degree; and two counts of criminal weapons possession.

Miscellaneous: Is the press investigating what role the anti-police rhetoric spewed in Rochester in particular and NY in general since 2020 played in this unprovoked ambush upon two officers? Doubt it!
