What prompted the initial contact with the killer? At around 12:28 a.m. on June 8, 2022, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of an assault at a residence. Convicted felon, Tyrone Cleveland had just shot his wife and two daughters and fled the scene in a vehicle.

Actions taken by subject toward police: When the deputies located Cleveland’s vehicle and were in pursuit, Cleveland turned around and drove into oncoming traffic, striking the patrol vehicle operated by PO Christopher Fariello.

Reactions by the police: PO Fariello was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead. Deputies arrested Cleveland who was also transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

How murdered? PO Fariello was murdered by a suspect who intentionally crashed into his patrol vehicle while fleeing police after shooting several family members.

What could have been done differently for the officer to still be alive? NA, PO Fariello was murdered while doing his job, there is little if anything that could have done differently to prevent it.

Would the officer have been justified to use deadly force before being murdered? The officer would not have had the time to try and evade an oncoming moving vehicle nor draw his weapon and accurately fire at it.  

Outcome for the cop-killer: Cleveland was arrested and “is facing three counts of homicide, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon”, with additional charges likely forthcoming for murdering PO Fariello.
