What prompted the initial contact with the killer? At approximately 6:20 a.m. on December 13, 2022, Senior Corrections Officer (SCO) Riner arrived at the parking lot of the Gwinnet Correctional Center for his shift that day.
Actions taken by subject toward police: Without provocation Yahya Abdulkadir who was in that parking lot previous to SCO Riner’s arrival, ambushed SCO Riner, shooting him dead near his vehicle. Abdulkadir fled on foot.
Reactions by the police: After reviewing surveillance photos from the parking lot, a multiagency task force tracked down Abdulkadir to a business in Lithonia where the Gwinnett County SWAT team arrested him without further incident on December 16, 2022.
How murdered? SCO Riner was ambushed and fatally shot without provocation upon arriving for his shift at the correctional facility he works at.
What could have been done differently for the officer to still be alive? SCO Riner was ambushed and did not have a chance to defend himself.
Would the officer have been justified to use deadly force before being murdered? SCO Riner would have had to have his head on a swivel upon arriving at work and until he entered the secure correctional facility.
Outcome for the cop-killer: Abdulkadir was arrested a few days later and faces felony murder and aggravated assault charges.
Miscellaneous: It cannot be ruled out that Abdulkadir ambushed and murdered SCO Riner to get revenge for the perceived grievances the mainstream media, progressive politicians and social justice activists repeatedly blame America’s law enforcement officers for.
