What prompted the initial contact with the killer? At around 12:50 a.m. on July 3, 2023, officers from the Tell City Police Department (PD), Perry County Sheriff’s Office and Cannelton PD responded to a hospital after a female domestic violence victim alerted staff that her attacker, Sean Hubert, was on his way there. Having investigated the domestic violence incident, Sgt. Heather Glenn attempted to arrest Hubert when he arrived at the hospital.
Actions taken by subject toward police: Hubert resisted arrest, prompting Sgt. Glenn to use the Taser on him. Unaffected by the Taser, Hubert pulled out a concealed handgun and fatally shot Sgt. Glenn.
Reactions by the police: Officers from Tell City and Cannelton returned fire, killing Hubert.
How murdered? Sgt. Glenn was shot and killed while trying to arrest an uncooperative domestic violence suspect.
What could have been done differently for the officer to still be alive? This incident shows why officers demand to see people’s hands and why people who refuse to comply with such commands and reach into their waistband/pockets have deadly force used against them.
Would the officer have been justified in using deadly force before being murdered? Sgt. Glenn would have been justified to use deadly force as soon as the combative Hubert put his hand in his waistband/pocket.
Outcome for the cop-killer: Hubert was justifiably shot dead by other officers at the scene.
Miscellaneous: Hubert was a Marine who served two combat tours in Afghanistan.
